LEECH LAKE IS BACK!!  Fishing is doing VERY,VERY well.  To look out on the lake it is just like "the good ole days", there are boats everywhere.  Memorial weekend we even had a LINE OF PEOPLE WAITING TO GET INTO THE FISH HOUSE!  The Walleyes were hitting along with the jumbo Perch, Northerns and a few Crappie.  We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. There were 46 boats over at the mouth of Federal one morning over Memorial Weekend and this past Wednesday in front of the lodge there were 19 boats.  It is great to see the lake so alive with fishermen...HAPPY FISHERMEN!

What are the fish hitting on?  Seems to be Worms, Shiners and Leeches.

REMEMBER TO KEEP OUR LAKE SAFE BY EMPTYING ANY WATER FROM YOUR BOAT, LIVE WELLS AND BAIT BUCKETS BEFORE ENTERING OUR WATERS.  THANK YOU.

Don's Portage Bay Muskie Classic Tournament August 14 & 15, 2010      $75 ENTRY FEE CALL FOR INFO!

Muskie caught on Portage Bay on Leech Lake Each year New Leech Campground & Resort holds/hosts a Muskie Tournament thru our Campground/Resort called DON’S PORTAGE BAY MUSKIE CLASSIC. The muskie tournament is such a fun tournament! It is on the small side as tournaments go, however the prizes are very nice and more than pay for the weekend of fun. We average about 80 people. The muskie tournament is a total release tournament.

We have 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place for Muskie and 1st Place for Northern and for anyone who catches a Muskie above XX “ gets to put their name in a drawing for $1,000! One chance per person, so you have just as great of a chance as anyone else who catches a fish for that prize. Our muskie tournament is held only within Portage Bay of Leech Lake. Don's Portage Bay Muskie Classic is ALWAYS the second Saturday & Sunday of August each year. It is a very friendly, fun tournament.

Your entry fee also gets you a delicious hot dinner on Saturday. The "Hansen Clan" in 2010 will be donating a pig roast dinner Saturday evening that will come with your paid entry.  You supply your beverage and enjoy what we KNOW will be a great plate of food.  THANKS HANSEN CLAN!!

Our tourney goes from Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Shortly afterwards awards are given out and door prizes are also given. Click Here to print a registration form or we would be happy to send you an entry form and a set of rules if you would like. Everything you would need to know would be there and if not, just ask. It really is a fun time. Some people come to win and others simply come to have fun and visit with the friends they have made. We actually close the camp to only tournament members as we start the day with a siren at 5:30 in the morning … we learned that this can upset people who are not in the tournament … hhmmm … so we focus strictly on the tournament the whole weekend.

Fishing Leech Lake

Everyone caught fish here Our muskie tournament is not the only time you can fish here at New Leech Lake Campground and Resort. Fishing on Leech Lake is what most of our seasonal residents and many of our visiting guests come here for. Excellent fishing begins right off our docks. Leech Lake is well known among anglers for its excellent walleye, northern pike, and muskie fishing but the lake also boasts large numbers of perch, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black crappie and panfish.

Nice perch caught ice fishing on Leech Lake Since we are a small camp, everyone knows everyone. You can go to any of our permanent campers and ask their advice. They will point you to right where they have been catching fish and show you what they are catching them on. You can go as far as you want from camp to fish or you can saty within sight of camp and have a good chance of catching fish too.

New Leech Lake Campground has an easy access boat launch ramp and a harbor recently updated with a floating dock system. You must bring your own boat ties and bumpers and you will be all set.

Ice fishing in the winter on Leech Lake starts in early December and continues thru March. Bring your snowmobiles, 4-wheeler and a portable fish house and you can enjoy your fishing here year round.
